About This Model
The Novation Launchpad S is a USB-MIDI pad controller built around a grid of 64 velocity-sensitive pads arranged in an 8×8 layout. It generates no sound of its own, functioning purely as a performance and production controller — most commonly paired with Ableton Live, though it works with any DAW that accepts USB-MIDI. Connection is via a single USB Type-B port, which also powers the unit, so no separate power supply is needed. It is class-compliant, meaning no drivers are required on Mac, Linux, or iOS devices (iOS connection requires a Camera Connection Kit). Compared to the original Launchpad, the S model introduced brighter LEDs and a faster LED refresh rate, improving visual feedback during live performance. It also supports a full-power LED mode, firmware updates, and device ID configuration for use alongside multiple Launchpad units simultaneously.
