A lot of companies are outfitting attenuators with additional features and functions that go beyond simply rolling off some volume, and Rivera's RockCrusher is a particularly well-designed example of this kind of unit. Rivera's amplifiers are known for no-expenses-spared attention to detail and premium construction, and the RockCrusher is no different.
Besides doing an excellent job of helping the player maintain cranked amp arena rock tones at bedroom volumes, it also has a range of other excellent features. For players that want to interface with a wide variety of studio and professional audio equipment, there are XLR and quarter-inch output jacks with a dedicated level control, enabling the user to use the RockCrusher as a load box and silent, direct recording platform. Its front panel also has a switch for instantly bypassing the unit, with no tonal degradation.
Two switches, Edge and Warm, are provided for enabling different equalization curves, which is nice for enhancing severely attenuated tones that need a little help to get them back up to snuff. 8- and 16-ohm impedances can be selected, and two cabinets in total can be connected.
Rivera's RockCrusher is an incredibly well-built attenuator with an impressive range of functions for even the most demanding tone nuts.
