The JX-8P is a great analog polysynth. It has 6 polyphonic voices, great MIDI implementation and patch memory, as well as a slot for external memory modules. While far more advanced than its predecessor, the JX-3P, the JX-8P has its drawbacks. The practical programming is sacrificed and reduced to assigning the parameter you want to tweak to a data slider near the pitch / mod bender.
Enter the PG-800 controller (not included) which gives you complete control over all editable parameters of the JX-8P with convenient traditional slider control. Membrane keys dominate the front panel of the JX-8P and provide access to the various preset and user patches as well as scrolling through and assigning editable parameters. Professional features can still be found under the hood of the JX-8P. Its 61-note keyboard is velocity sensitive and sensitive to aftertouch. Just like the Juno synthesizers, it uses DCOs for a very stable system, but its sounds are a bit thin and bright. It also has Portamento, Union and Solo (monosynth) performance modes.
