About this listing
I bought this JV-1080 and it showed up with several issues. You can play the majority of the classic internal patches on it. The first 120-something patches do not play because when you change the battery, the user patches randomize and need to be factory reset to get back to normal. Their names just appear as a random assortment of characters. There is seemingly not a way to factory reset this device that I am aware of because almost all of the buttons are not functioning. The value knob works and the incline and decline buttons work. A slight few other buttons will sometimes/ very rarely work. But, that is very sporadic and should not be relied on at all. The only things I can guarantee are the value knob, incline and decline buttons, and that the device powers on and receives midi notes from a midi controller. Nearly all the buttons do not work and none of them light up. The up and down/left buttons don’t click when pressed. The device starts up fine when powered on and the sounds that play are normal. The patches output sounding as they should. But, this is essentially just a sound module now. I imagine you could use MIDI program changes to likely switch between a lot of stuff if you are savvy in that regard. I have not tried to do that. But as this device is….You have access to about 500 preset patches/sounds. Scrolling between them can be annoying. Effects do not seemingly workMIDI transmits normally to play patches. The patches sound as they would in other JV-1080’s. Midi indicator in the unit lights up when you input notes as well. That part is normal Cosmetic condition: Refer to pictures. Looks somewhat decent but has some small patches of rust here and there on the outside. There is rust/oxidation under the front panel which I believe is the cause of the buttons not working primarily...Could be wrong. This would maybe be a good project for someone who is very knowledgeable. Definitely would still look decent in a home studio or rackmount. I opened up the chassis of the synth to change the internal battery on September 18th. The main section looks fine. The issue this device has appears to be the panel/buttons have build-up/oxidation, which caused almost all of the buttons to stop working. In the meantime you could use the around 500 patches for your music.Cards do not read in the front panel. I have not tested every aspect of this device so just assume that all that works is the around 500 patches. Have not test playing expansion sounds in it. There is some oxidation visible around the edges of buttons which I tried to photographShips from NCShipping service may varyI changed the internal battery a week or so agoSold as-described. I make no promises besides what I have estimated in here. I have no idea if the front panel issues are fixable. It looks extremely complicated to fix as the parts under the front panel are very oxidized.
