a classic late-'80s Japanese Stratocaster.
Black finish. Maple neck. Maple fingerboard. Original Fender Japan pickups and wiring.
But there's a secret hiding in the scale length.
This 1987 Fender Japan ST-33M features a 24.75" MEDIUM Scale, giving it a noticeably different feel from the traditional 25.5" Stratocaster scale.
And that's where things get interesting.
The shorter scale means lower string tension, easier bends and a slinkier overall playing feel. The fret layout also gives a slightly wider perceived fret spacing, creating a surprisingly comfortable feel for players accustomed to Gibson-style guitars.
In other words:
Stratocaster snap.
Gibson-style feel.
This particular example is from the very highly regarded and sought after “E-Serial” period used from 1984 until 1987 this specific Strat carries serial number E976221 and is calculated to be from the last year of the E-serial (1987)
The maple fingerboard shows beautiful genuine playing wear, developed through years of actual use. There is also a small amount of authentic wear along the thumb side of the neck around the cowboy-chord area.
Importantly, the frets remain in good condition, making this a vintage guitar with plenty of life left in it.
Overall the guitar has honest playwear consistent with age (as pictured)
The original tuners have been upgraded to Gotoh Japan Magnum locking tuners, providing improved tuning stability and modern convenience while keeping the guitar's original electronics and vintage character intact.
The guitar comes complete with a Fender gig bag.
