UHER M534 Stereo Pair
Originally developed for UHER's famous portable tape recorders, the M534 is far more than an accessory microphone. It is a beautifully engineered dynamic microphone in its own right, combining exceptional manufacturing quality with remarkable long-term reliability.
Its robust capsule assembly, heavy steel mesh and simple moving-coil construction have allowed these microphones to survive decades of professional and amateur recording with astonishing consistency. One particularly useful feature is the integrated M/S (Music/Speech) filter, which introduces a gentle musical bass roll-off, making the microphone equally suitable for speech recording and music.

A Stereo Recording Classic
Introduced in 1969, the UHER M534 was designed as a stereo dynamic microphone pair for the company's renowned portable tape recorder systems. These compact recorders became standard equipment for journalists, broadcasters, educators and field recordists throughout Europe, where reliability was often more important than absolute studio performance.
The M534 was engineered to meet exactly those demands.
RELIABILITY
Very few vintage microphones have impressed me with their consistency as much as the M534.
Having tested numerous pairs over the years, I have found remarkably little variation between individual microphones. Their tonal balance remains exceptionally consistent—even compared to many well-known modern dynamic microphones.
Even more impressive is their reliability.
Despite handling many examples, I have never encountered one requiring internal repair. Their simple mechanical construction and outstanding manufacturing quality make them among the most dependable vintage dynamic microphones I have worked with.
SOUND CHARACTERISTICS
The M534 delivers a smooth, natural sound with a warm midrange, controlled bass and gently rounded high frequencies. Rather than emphasizing brightness, it produces a balanced and relaxed presentation that suits speech, acoustic instruments and ambient stereo recording equally well.
The integrated Music/Speech filter is particularly effective, introducing a gentle low-frequency roll-off that reduces excessive proximity effect while maintaining a natural tonal balance.
especially useful on vocals piano and plucked instruments.
