Offered for sale is an interesting historical mandolin featuring a distinctive traditional construction. The instrument bears no maker's stamp, label, inscription or other identifying mark, so its exact maker and origin cannot currently be established with certainty.
The construction is particularly noteworthy. The mandolin features distinctive ribs/sides and a curved back, although the back is not strongly domed in the manner normally associated with the classical Neapolitan bowl-back mandolin. It therefore does not correspond to the typical Neapolitan construction with its pronounced bowl-shaped body.
