The Boss DD-3 Digital Delay, introduced in 1986, brought high-quality digital delay into the compact Boss housing and quickly became one of the most widely used delay pedals in the world. This particular example is an early Made in Japan unit, recognizable by its blue foil label and the long main chip that characterizes the earliest production run. Among players, this version is regarded as the most sought-after of all DD-3 revisions, as its repeats are frequently described as warmer and more organic than those of later variants.The pedal offers three delay modes (50 ms, 200 ms and 800 ms) with a Delay Time control for fine adjustment between approximately 12.5 and 800 milliseconds, alongside Effect Level and Feedback controls for precise shaping of the repeats. The Hold function allows a short phrase to be sustained and played over, while a second output enables a stereo delay setup.
