JMP 2203

1979 Master Model 100 Watt Lead

Fully Serviced

A superb original example of a 1979 Marshall JMP 2203 Master Model Lead, one of the most iconic high-gain amplifiers ever produced and a true milestone in Marshall's history.

Introduced in 1975, the 2203 revolutionised the Marshall lineup by introducing a genuine master volume design, giving players the ability to achieve rich valve overdrive without running the amplifier completely flat out. By 1979, the model had become firmly established on stages around the world, delivering the punch, clarity and reliability that made it a favourite among professional guitarists.

Built during Marshall's celebrated late-'70s period, this UK-made head delivers everything players expect from a vintage JMP—massive headroom, aggressive midrange bite, tight low end and the unmistakable roar that has defined rock music for decades.

Tone

The late-’70s 2203 is one of the definitive Marshall amplifiers. It combines the authority and headroom of a 100-watt Super Lead with the added flexibility of a master volume circuit, creating an amplifier that can move effortlessly from articulate classic rock to aggressive hard rock and early heavy metal.

Expect tight, percussive bass response, aggressive upper mids and exceptional note definition. The amplifier remains incredibly responsive to picking dynamics and cleans up beautifully from the guitar’s volume control, while turning up the preamp delivers the rich harmonic overdrive that has made the 2203 legendary.

A boost pedal in front unlocks the saturated tones that became synonymous with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, early thrash and countless arena rock recordings.

This is the unmistakable sound of a late-’70s Marshall at its absolute best.

Condition

Presented in very good vintage condition with honest cosmetic wear consistent with nearly 50 years of use. The amplifier retains plenty of original character and has clearly been enjoyed throughout its life.
