Rare and vintage RFZ V341 microphone preamp

This is the solid state successor of the legendary tube-microphone preamp Lorenz V241.

The Lorenz V241 is one of the best microphone preamps and is sold nowadays for roughly $4000

Most people whe have used it prefer it over the western german counterpart, the Telefunken V76.

The V341 with it's neve-like organic sound is made with lesser parts in signal chain which is a great

benefit for the sound and highest quality input and output transformers.

The RFZ, Berlin (eastern german broadcast authority) worked in a different way compared

to the western-german broadcast. Please read the background info below.

The RFZ even had a listening group for judging new developement back then

with the ear. Their goal was a natural sound reproduction.

This V341 has been tested and is in good working condition. Sounding great as expected

from RFZ gear!!!! A pair would be possible too.

Some background info about the eastern-german broadcast studio gear, as it is not so common: In the GDR all studio- and broadcast developements were under control of the state. The RFZ was subordinated to the Deutsche Post. So there these develope-ments were concentrated and broadcast was one of the highest priorities in the GDR. More than enough money, time and skilled engineers and technician were available. Patent law was not an issue. The RFZ developed most things by themselves, but also were interested in western-german developements. Adopted them partly and sometimes even improved them by a more clever and to the point approach (see V241 compared to V76).

Due to the production of LP's (AMIGA= pop etc., ETERNA=Classical) which was a renommé object of the GDR, the highest claim was to reproduce music as truthful and natural sounding as possible.

It was not enough to do all the measurements while developing for example a preamp.

They even had a listening group which consisted of people, that were no technicians but had skilled ears and were trained through constant visits of classical concerts.

Gerhard Steinke is the name behind all this.

In 1956, he set up the first subjective listening test group to assess sound recordings, studios, and impairments in the broadcasting chain. This concept and its associated findings are now included in various international standards and documents on listening tests and test rooms.
