The keyboard unit is equipped with an 88-key wooden graded hammer keyboard (NW-GH keyboard) with triple sensors. The keys, made of solid natural wood like a grand piano, produce a weight and touch that pianists find natural, and the hammer action mechanism, which is heavy in the low range and light in the high range, reproduces the original mechanism of a grand piano.

The white and black keys are finished with a porous wooden ivory finish and ebony finish, respectively (with fine holes on the surface and moderate friction and moisture absorption), providing a comfortable grip when playing and a stable playing feel even when playing for long periods of time.

The sensor section that detects keystrokes is equipped with Yamaha's unique third sensor, the "damper sensor," on each key. This allows for high-speed, continuous hitting of the same note without any sound dropout, just like on a grand piano.
