About this listing
Arguably the most desirable small recording microphones in history. This is an originally matched pair of KM84, with very close serial numbers. One previous owner, exceptional condition for 45+ years old. Sound like new (although obviously the new 184s don't sound like these). Very minor blemishes, almost not notable. Even top screens are fresh and never dented. I cannot tell these mics from each other audio-wise, and that is rare. They were matched at the factory.Original Gotham case. No accessories. These are absolute jewels of audio and visual perfection. Why am I selling these mics?I had a burglary of my recording studio and home in May of 2023. I sustained over $3,000,000 loss including historically important gear (Abbey Road, Rolling Stones Mobile, Olympic, etc.) and my lifetime collection of high end mics, guitar, bass, drum, synth and recording equipment. Helios preamps from the Rolling Stones mobile - gone. RS124 compressors from the Beatles sessions at Abbey Road - gone. Consecutively numbered U47s - gone. U48 tuned by Klaus Heine - gone. Al Schmitt's mics including his primary Brauner - gone. Board, computers, everything was stolen. It was a life changing event for me. Despite knowing who committed the burglary and the criminals having extensive past criminal histories, the police have recovered almost nothing, the DA is not prosecuting, and my insurance companies have denied the claim. So, my recording studio is gone and I'm selling off what little I had off-site or that I've recovered. Otherwise, I wouldn't sell these. These microphones were one of the few items recovered by the police after the burglary and since everything including my board and computers were stolen, I no longer have any use for these exceptional recording microphones.
