East German engineering and resilience!


The RFT DHM 63 T is remembered as a rugged workhorse of the early 1960s. While it races for the contest “the ugliest mic in the world,” many enthusiasts—appreciate its robust design and straightforward circuitry.

It is a genius almost futuristic design. Its practical build and smart internal layout have helped these microphones survive for more than 60 years, with many still fully functional today. this example sounds incredible!


OPTICAL CONDITION

The microphone shows typical and lots of wear and signs of age- but remains in solid cosmetic shape. The original RFT markings are intact.


TECHNICAL CONDITION

Tested and fully working. This example delivers a relatively strong and stable output.  Modified to XLR

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

The DHM 63 T has a strong and pleasing output with a character all its own. The low end naturally rolls off below ~70–80 Hz, giving it the feel of a built-in low-cut filter—ideal for speech and vocals. While not highly detailed, it has a crunchy, musical quality that adds vintage flavor to instruments and voices alike.


Usage example: speech recording, gritty vocal effects, or creative lo-fi applications where character and personality are more important than clinical detail.
