Hoyer 4062 – Vintage German Semi-Hollow w/ Gibson Tim Shaw Pickups – Original Case
Beautiful Hoyer model 4062, crafted in Germany in the late ’60s / early ’70s, inspired by the legendary Gibson ES-335 design.
Hoyer guitars from this era are known for their outstanding build quality. Made in Germany, they were directly inspired by Fender and Gibson instruments of the time and are widely regarded as serious competitors in terms of craftsmanship and tone.
This example is a great player-grade instrument that has undergone a few tasteful and valuable modifications.
Upgrades & Features
The most significant upgrade is the set of original Gibson “Patent Number” Tim Shaw humbuckers from the early 1980s. These were Gibson’s first attempt at reissuing the legendary PAF pickups after players felt the 1970s T-Tops no longer captured the classic PAF tone.
Today, Tim Shaw pickups are highly sought-after vintage pieces, with individual market values often exceeding €400 per pickup on the used market. They deliver warm, articulate, and dynamic tones—truly worthy of a great 335-style guitar.
The tailpiece has been replaced with an Ibanez stoptail system, likely installed around the same time as the pickups. The tuners, pots, and pickguard are original.
Condition
The finish has beautifully aged and developed natural checking over the years, giving the guitar strong vintage character and undeniable mojo.
There was a partial headstock crack on the back (the headstock was not completely broken off). It has been solidly repaired but not cosmetically refinished, remaining visible. Structurally stable.
The bridge pickup tone pot is currently seized and does not turn.
Playability & Tone
The neck is perfectly straight, the action is low, and the guitar plays effortlessly. It is highly resonant acoustically, and the pair of Tim Shaw pickups truly elevates the instrument, delivering rich, expressive tones worthy of a high-end 335-style semi-hollow.
The guitar comes with its original and beautiful Hoyer-branded hard case.
A fantastic opportunity for someone looking for a vintage player-grade semi-hollow with premium pickups. Considering the current market value of the Tim Shaw set alone, the guitar and original case are practically a bonus.
