Whenever someone says Ibanez RGs are only for shred and metal, we usually like to argue that they're far more versatile than that, but this RGT1221PB happens to lean heavily into that concept. This brutal-looking poplar burl-topped monster of an axe in a stunning Deep Twilight Flat finish and striking Cosmo Black hardware cranks out metal tones for days and possesses a similarly-fitting hard-edged look. The Neck-Thru construction of this guitar, which is unique for an RG, also makes it a little more synonymous with other popular metal-associated axes, whilst increasing sustain.
At the heart of the guitar is the tried-and-true Air Norton and Tone Zone DiMarzio set of pickups that Ibanez tends to use on their RGs ranging from Premium to J. Custom, and for good reason - the combination of warmth and clarity in the Air Norton neck and the power and punch of the Tone Zone can cover any genre from jazz to death metal. The mini-toggle also allows you to "Power Tap" the pickups, giving you coil-split options that really open up this guitar's versatility.
Ibanez is also really stepping up their game for the Premium series with the innovative Mono-Rail hardtail bridge, Gotoh MG-T locking tuners, and stainless steel frets. This guitar plays like butter and stays in tune for days!

A pair of DiMarzio® Air Norton™ and Tone Zone® pickups offer depth, warmth and rich dynamics when combined with the 5-way pickup switch. The dyna-MIX 10 offers ten sound variations and can easily switch from humbucker and single coil modes with the mini switch. The power Tap mode provides a realistic single coil sound despite its two humbucker pickup layout. Ibanez's thin, flat and fast Wizard neck is strong and sturdy and offers unlimited playability and features a two-octave 24-fret fretboard for a wide tonal range. Stainless steel frets boast excellent corrosion resistance. The wide and tall fret-type offers a quick response and effortless articulation when playing chords and clear tone when playing single notes. The Premium Fret Edge Treatment offers a super smooth, comfortable performance.The Poplar Burl top features an exotic wood grain and the American Basswood body delivers a natural and flat tone. Ebony produces tight lows and mid range with a strong attack in the high end and features a quick response and rich sustain. Neck-through construction provides massive sustain and playing comfort. Designed for both stability and sustain, the innovative Ibanez Mono-Rail bridge minimizes cross-talk between strings. Gotoh® machine heads provide super precision, smooth feel, and minimal back lush.
