In 1969, Ampeg provided the Rolling Stones with a backline of prototype SVT amplifiers for their North American tour — the Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out run. Keith Richards' jangly, open, not-quite-clean guitar tone on that tour came through those Ampegs. A decade or so later, a different generation of players in the California desert discovered that Ampeg guitar amps had their own character entirely — Josh Homme and the Palm Desert scene ran them hard for the stoner rock sound. The SFT is both of those things in one pedal.

The Stones/Stoner switch completely reconfigures the circuit. Stones mode delivers the bouncy, dynamic, touch-sensitive Ampeg character — low-gain settings that respond like a cranked amp rather than a driven pedal. The Baxandall tone stack (a high-fidelity EQ design borrowed from studio gear, used in original Ampegs) gives you interactive bass and treble controls that affect the mids between them. Stoner mode is rawer, higher-gain, and capable of full fuzz territory when pushed.

It started as a bass overdrive. Guitarists took it over. It works for both.
