For sale: SPRAGUE "BLACK BEAUTY" - one of the most sought-after capacitors by guitarists.
Value: .1uF / 400V. The exact measurement is: 0.1357uF / 400V.
Used in the most iconic guitars:
Gibson Les Paul Standard 1958–1960 (Burst)
Gibson ES-335
Gibson SG Standard (early 1960s)
Apparently, the oldest Teles sometimes featured these capacitors in the 0.1uF size to achieve a rounder, jazzier sound. Reggae musicians now often use the 0.1uF value in guitars and basses, including Teles.
Gibson's jazz models used these capacitors; here are the most commonly used capacitors:
0.047 µF – 0.1 µF
Purpose: a darker, more musical, rounder bass tone at 0.1uF.
However, today this capacitor (0.1uF) is most often used to upgrade bass guitars, including the iconic Fender Jazz.
Here's a sound comparison of different capacitor sizes (using a standard ceramic capacitor):
The capacitors are New Old Stock, never used. They have also been measured and tested for leakage current. They are in excellent condition.
