Cort LC1 S-400 CUSTOM 2002 Super 400 Archtop Jazz Guitar

The archtop jazz guitar offered here is a CORT LC1 S-400 CUSTOM, a Larry Coryell model that has been completely reworked and re-designed by a French luthier from the premium workshop in the Ardèche region.

This beautiful Cort LC1 guitar, manufactured in Korea (2002; serial number 020574), which was jointly designed by Cort and Larry Coryell, features a Gibson L-5-sized body, a Venetian cutaway, a solid spruce top, a flamed maple back and sides, and a beautiful finish with numerous inlays. Thanks to meticulous craftsmanship and the use of high-end hardware, to create a remarkable instrument as a tribute to the legendary Gibson Super 400—the other guitar that Larry Coryell primarily played.

The headstock features a special two-layer Super 400 truss rod cover and an inlaid mother-of-pearl “split diamond” on the front, as well as a black-lacquered mother-of-pearl “diamond” on the back. The set maple neck has a slim profile with split mother-of-pearl fretboard markers and diagonal abalone inlays on a dark rosewood fretboard.

The electronics are top-notch, featuring two Gibson pickups (Classic 57 and 57+) combined with an ES-175 Modern Wiring circuit from Arty’s Guitar (rubber grommet, shielded cable, Switchcraft 3-way switch and output jack, CTS potentiometers, vintage Bumblebee capacitors, etc.).

Other features include Imperial Stairsteps tuners, an adjustable, compensated wooden bridge (fully interchangeable with a pre-notched gold Tunamatic B2 metal bridge, which is also included), a five-ply black pickguard, and the gold “Diamond” trapezoid tailpiece with ebony inlay, as found on some legendary Gibson models such as the Howard Roberts or the Heritage Golden Eagle.

Thanks to the body’s natural acoustic resonance and the Gibson Classic 57 pickups, this archtop sounds as jazzy as one could wish for: round, warm, and full-bodied with great bass. It is strung with a set of Thomastik Infeld .012-.050 roundwound strings. The guitar comes with a premium hard shell case. The accessory compartment contains various receipts for the pickups, wiring, pickup boxes, the gold Tunamatic bridge, etc.
