For sale is a 1987 Ibanez Maxxas MX2 in Fountain Blue Metallic, from the first production year, built at the FujiGen Gakki factory in Japan (Serial: F726102). The Maxxas line was short-lived and built in small numbers, and complete first-year examples in this finish rarely come up.

The Maxxas was designed by Rich Lasner at Hoshino USA in Bensalem as the first Ibanez guitar developed from scratch rather than adapted from an existing style. Its contoured lightweight Honduras mahogany body and sculpted heel introduced the ergonomics that carried straight into the JEM, JS and S Series that followed. It was the first Ibanez production guitar with the All Access Neck Joint.

Pickups are the original IBZ/USA humbuckers made by DiMarzio, with a master volume, master tone and 3-way toggle. Hardware is the original chrome Ibanez Edge locking tremolo with Top-Lok III nut, Gotoh tuners, and the Ibanez Backstop tremolo stabiliser in the spring cavity.

Contoured solid Honduras mahogany body, Fountain Blue Metallic
All Access Neck Joint
Bolt-on maple neck, reverse headstock ("MAXXAS, A Division of Ibanez")
