The Yamaha CS-50 is a rare, 1977 vintage four-voice analog synthesizer that delivers the iconic, expressive sound of Yamaha's legendary CS line of synthesizers in a more portable package. While the CS-50 sports half the voices of it's siblings and has no storage for user created programs, the 4-voice polyphony combined with it's unique analog architecture and monophonic aftertouch capability has created some iconic and recognizable sounds. A unique feature of Yamaha's CS line is the ability to mix the sine wave back in to your sound after the high-pass filter which can give them a more modern sound while retaining all of the analog warmth. This CS-50 has been lovingly restored and calibrated by our techs, and includes the lid, legs, and hard-to-find expression pedal. The power supply has been rebuilt, nearly every circuit board has been checked out and brought up to spec, and the synth has been fully calibrated - an intensive process that tunes the voice boards, filters, VCA response, filter and VCA envelopes, aftertouch and velocity sensitivity, chorus, ring mod, etc. All of the CMOS logic chips have been replaced. The proprietary Yamaha VCO chips have been matched for similar drift characteristics, allowing for the most stable tuning. In other words, this classic synth has been brought to factory standards, and future-proofed to the fullest extent possible. Buyers outside of the US will need to arrange for crating and cartage.
