About this listing
The Shallow Water is a modern classic — it defined what lo-fi modulation could be before half the current tape-emulation pedals on the market existed. At its core it's a BBD-based k-field modulator: a random, non-cyclical vibrato/chorus that doesn't move in waves or follow a pattern. Instead it wanders, stutters, and drifts, the way old tape does when it's been left in a hot car.The modulation starts in a microcontroller generating random voltage steps at random intervals. Rate sets how often those shifts happen. Damp controls how fast they arrive — from sudden pitch jerks at the minimum to slow, barely-perceptible drift at the maximum. Depth sets how far. The three interact heavily; subtle settings are where it lives best. The LPG knob feeds an envelope follower into a low-pass gate at the output, so the pedal responds to your playing dynamics — dig in and it opens up, play softly and it darkens and chokes slightly. That's the detail that makes it feel alive rather than just weird.Works on guitar, synth, keys, or anything that benefits from sounding like it was recorded on something that no longer exists.FEATURES:BBD analog modulation circuit with pseudorandom modulationNon-cyclical vibrato/chorus — no repeating LFO patternEnvelope follower into low-pass gate (LPG) responds to playing dynamicsInternal boost/pad jumpers for impedance and level matchingIsolated power supply strongly recommended (sensitive to power noise)SPECS:Switching: True BypassPower: 9V DC only (center negative) — strictly 9V, no exceptionsCurrent draw: 40mA maxInput impedance: 1MΩOutput impedance: 2kΩDimensions: 11.9 × 9.7 cmCONTROLS:Rate: frequency of random pitch fluctuations (rare to nervous)Damp: slope of modulation — abrupt jerks to slow driftDepth: intensity of pitch modulationLPG: envelope follower sensitivity into the low-pass gateMix: wet/dry blendVolume: output level
