This is an original vintage set of Grover Rotomatics from the 1970s, fully functional and complete, with honest road wear, aging, marks, and cosmetic wear from decades of real use. Not new. Not relic’d. Not pretending. Just a proper old set of Grovers that already did the job for half a century.

The Grover Rotomatic 102 is one of the classic sealed tuning machine designs for 3x3 Gibson-style headstocks. Strong, stable, heavy-duty, and instantly recognizable, these tuners became one of the most common serious upgrades on vintage Gibsons during the 60s and 70s, especially when players wanted better tuning stability than the lighter vintage-style machines.

Although this set was removed from a 1974 Gibson SG, the same Rotomatic format is also applicable to many Gibson-style 3x3 guitars, including Les Pauls, SGs, ES models, Flying Vs, Explorers, and other solid or semi-hollow instruments that use the correct headstock hole size and mounting pattern.

The pedigree is obvious. Grover Rotomatics are part of the visual and functional language of countless modified Gibson guitars. Jimmy Page’s Les Paul famously received Grover tuners. Peter Frampton’s legendary “Phenix” Les Paul Custom is strongly associated with Grover-equipped hardware. Ace Frehley’s Les Paul world also carries that classic Grover kidney-button look. Different guitars, different eras, same basic idea: players wanted tuners that worked, stayed stable, and looked right on a serious Gibson.

This set is completely functional, but cosmetically used. Expect scratches, patina, dulling, and road wear. That is exactly why it looks right on a vintage Gibson restoration or a player-grade 70s-style build. No fake history required.
