About this listing
Offered by Bash Vintage Audio is a very attractive Pioneer SX-780 vintage AM/FM stereo receiver with its original-style wood cabinet. This SX-780 has been serviced, selectively recapped, cleaned, detailed, LED upgraded, and operationally tested for more than 3 hours on the bench.Previous electronic work includes visible electrolytic capacitor replacement on both the GWK-118 AF / amplifier / power-supply assembly and the AWE-099 tuner assembly. Internal photographs are included to document the actual work present in this receiver.Importantly, this receiver is not represented as fully recapped. A number of original components remain, including what appear to be the original large main filter capacitors. The front presentation is particularly strong, with a clean polished aluminum faceplate, attractive dial illumination, complete controls, working meters, and classic Pioneer styling.Serial Number: AB3665350SElectronic Service & Selective RecapInternal inspection shows meaningful previous capacitor replacement across two of the SX-780's major circuit-board assemblies.GWK-118 AF / Amplifier / Power-Supply AssemblyMultiple electrolytic capacitors have been replaced on the GWK-118 main AF / amplifier / power-supply assembly. This assembly contains circuitry associated with several critical receiver functions, including:Audio amplificationRegulated power supplySignal coupling and decouplingAmplifier operating circuitsProtection-related circuitryWhy This Work MattersReplacing aging or deteriorated electrolytic capacitors in these areas can contribute to:Improved power-supply stabilityReduced power-supply ripple and humMore consistent operating voltagesLower noiseImproved channel stabilityMore reliable amplifier operationImproved long-term reliability compared with failed or deteriorated original electrolyticsThe two large main power-supply filter capacitors appear to remain original and are not represented as having been replaced.AWE-099 Tuner Assembly — Selective Capacitor ReplacementThe AWE-099 tuner assembly also shows previous selective electrolytic capacitor replacement.Several newer capacitors are visible while original components remain elsewhere on the board. Why This Work MattersReplacement of deteriorated electrolytic capacitors in tuner and associated circuitry can help support:Stable FM and AM operationReduced noiseConsistent tuner performanceReliability of aging tuner circuitryBecause original capacitors remain on both assemblies, this receiver is accurately represented as selectively / partially recapped — not fully recapped. Please review the detailed internal photographs included with the listing. They show the actual receiver and allow buyers to inspect the previous electronic work for themselves.Bash Vintage Audio Cleaning & DetailingThis SX-780 received extensive cosmetic preparation by Bash Vintage Audio.KnobsAll knobs removedUltrasonically cleanedIndividually hand polishedReinstalled after cleaningFaceplateBrushed-aluminum faceplate carefully cleanedFaceplate hand polishedLettering preservedDial glass cleaned and detailedAdditional PreparationSwitches and control surfaces cleanedWood cabinet carefully cleaned and conditionedRear panel cleaned and detailedRCA connections visually inspectedSpeaker terminals visually inspectedInterior inspectedInternal circuit boards extensively photographedExterior extensively photographed following preparationThe goal was to improve presentation without removing the authentic character of this vintage Pioneer receiver.3+ Hours of Bench TestingFollowing preparation, this Pioneer SX-780 underwent more than 3 hours of bench testing and operational evaluation. This was not simply a brief power-on test. The extended test period was used to evaluate the receiver during prolonged operation and check for consistent performance over time. The receiver was operating normally during the testing performed. As with any vintage electronic component, future maintenance may eventually be required as components continue to age.Cosmetic ConditionThe front of this SX-780 presents exceptionally well for its age.Highlights include:Clean brushed-aluminum faceplateFaceplate cleaned and polishedStrong original letteringClean dial glassComplete matching knobsUltrasonically cleaned and polished knobsAttractive warm dial illuminationWorking metersWorking indicator lightingClean rear panelOriginal-style wood cabinetOriginal Wood CabinetThe wood cabinet retains attractive original-style grain and presents well overall, but it does show normal age-related cosmetic wear.Visible imperfections include:Wear along portions of the upper edgesSmall veneer chipsEdge wearCorner wearMinor scratches and marksNormal finish variationOther small signs of age consistent with a vintage componentThe cabinet has been carefully cleaned and conditioned but has not been represented as mint or newly re-veneered.Detailed close-up photographs are included so buyers can evaluate the cabinet condition before purchasing.Photographs, Video & Condition DisclosureThe photographs in this listing show the actual Pioneer SX-780 being offered for sale.I have made every reasonable effort to photograph and disclose the receiver’s cosmetic condition, including close-up views of:Faceplate and controlsDial and illuminationWood cabinetEdge and corner wearVeneer imperfectionsRear panel and connectionsInternal chassisGWK-118 assemblyAWE-099 tuner assemblyPrevious capacitor replacementRemaining original componentsSerial numberA YouTube demonstration video of this exact receiver is also included. Please review all photographs and the video carefully before purchasing, as they are considered an important part of the condition description.I have tried to take as many detailed photographs as reasonably possible to disclose visible wear and imperfections.
