■BOSS DS-1 Distortion

■Features

Since its debut in 1978, the DS-1 Distortion has been beloved by guitarists worldwide—BOSS's first distortion pedal.

This unit, which can be considered the origin of distortion pedals, emerged during an era when fuzz was dominant. It introduced a more controllable, clearly defined distortion sound that quickly became the global standard.

The sonic character is defined by tight, even-grained distortion, ranging from sweet and mild overdrive to sharp, deep heavy distortion. Rich harmonics reside within the grit, making it powerfully functional across numerous genres including hard rock, punk, grunge, and alternative.

Operation features just three knobs—TONE, LEVEL, and DIST—in a simple design that allows both first-time effects users and seasoned veterans to focus intuitively on tone shaping. This is a major appeal of the unit.

This model features the revised circuitry adopted after 1994 and is Taiwan-made. This circuit, which became the foundation of modern DS-1 sound, possesses modern, sharp distortion character and is praised for its clear, cutting tone.

The fact that legendary artists including Edward Van Halen and Kurt Cobain have favored this pedal speaks volumes about the DS-1's unwavering potential that transcends generations.

The trademark orange body and red LED indicator offer excellent visibility and command presence on stage. The unit runs on a 9V battery or PSA series AC adapter, making setup convenient.

Truly the textbook definition of a distortion pedal—simple operation concealing deep expressive power.
