The Rupert Neve Designs 5057 Orbit brings all the tone, power, and depth of a Rupert Neve console into a single rack space. Firmly rooted in six decades of console design experience, the 5057 Orbit gives your mixes the legendary tonality, power, and wide-open soundstage that only Rupert Neve's class-A analog summing can provide. This elegant 1U, 16x2 summing mixer takes sterile in-the-box mixes and launches them to new heights of tone, depth, and clarity — without sacrificing the recall and repeatability of your DAW-based workflow. Coupled with Rupert's famous custom audio transformers and the legendary Silk Red & Blue circuitry, it adds the rich, three-dimensional character that only genuine analog summing can deliver.
Key elements of its design:
- Class-A Analog Summing Bus A 16-channel ±21V Class-A mix bus provides massive headroom and the wide-open soundstage of a full Rupert Neve console. The Orbit's purist signal path has vanishingly low crosstalk, and channels matched to within +/-0.1dB, giving your mixes the widest, most accurate stereo image and the greatest sense of depth.
- Silk Red & Blue with Texture Control The Silk Red mode accentuates transformer saturation in the high and high-mid frequencies to amplify the vibrant midrange harmonics associated with Rupert's vintage equipment, while Silk Blue accentuates saturation of the lows and low-mids to add thickness and weight to any source. The 31-detent Texture knob lets you precisely dial in the amount of harmonic saturation — from clean and uncolored to rich, saturated vintage vibe.
- Custom Shelford-Derived Output Transformers The Orbit utilizes a highly custom output transformer configuration originally developed for the acclaimed Shelford Channel, which provides both a Main Output and a -6dB Output. The secondary -6dB output reduces the likelihood of clipping the next device in the chain when driving the unit very hard, and thus may allow for greater potential harmonic saturation.
- Mono Summing & Precise Centering Mono switches enable you to precisely center any mono mix elements like vocals, kick, snare and bass. Four push-button switches sum the first eight input channels in pairs at unity gain, with no pan law applied.
- Expandable Modular System Multiple units can be combined through the Bus Link for a higher channel count. RND recommend daisy-chaining up to four 5057s, for a total of 64 channels, and the Orbit also integrates with the 5059 Satellite and 5060 Centrepiece to build a world-class modular console system.
The 5057 Orbit is consistently praised by top engineers for its width, depth, and warmth. One engineer described diving into in-the-box mixing for years and never being able to get a mix to sound wide — then plugging in the Orbit and within about three minutes thinking "that's it," noting it really gives everybody the chance to have a console. Engineer Brad Divins, who has worked with Disturbed and Enrique Iglesias, summed it up as warmth, width, clarity and depth equaling pure analog goodness.
