BUILD & DESIGN
The K3N preamp features a slim cylindrical metal body with a classic industrial finish. It uses a 3-pin small Tuchel connector (DIN standard), typical of Sennheiser’s professional systems of the era. The unit includes an on/off switch and a 3-step high-frequency roll-off filter, allowing practical tonal shaping directly on the body.
K3N PREAMP
Powering: Internal battery / Phantom power
Filter: 3-step high-frequency roll-off
Output: Balanced (3-pin small Tuchel / DIN)
Condenser-based modular system powered via internal battery or external phantom power. The K3N provides a balanced low-impedance output, ensuring stable signal transmission even over longer cable runs.
CAPSULES
This modular system supports interchangeable condenser capsules.
This listing includes the following two
ME 40
Type: Condenser capsule
Polar Pattern: Supercardioid
Frequency Response: 50 Hz – 15,000 Hz
The ME 40 is a supercardioid capsule designed for focused pickup with controlled off-axis rejection. It delivers a natural balance with slight proximity enhancement.
ME 80
Type: Condenser capsule
Polar Pattern: Shotgun (lobar)
Frequency Response: 50 Hz – 15,000 Hz
The ME 80 is a shotgun (lobar) capsule, optimized for strong directionality and isolation. Its design allows tighter pickup over distance with reduced ambient bleed.
SOUND CHARACTERISTICS
This system delivers a clean, articulate condenser sound with a controlled top end and a practical presence lift around the upper mids.
The ME 40 offers a slightly fuller low-end perception due to proximity effect, making it excellent for close-miking sources like snare or percussion.
The ME 80 is tighter and more focused, ideal for isolating specific elements in a mix or capturing sources at distance — for example, live percussion, shakers, or directional spot miking in ensemble recordings.
