SPEAKER CHARACTERISTICS: The G12M-65 Creamback is less sensitive—or efficient—(97 dB) than the Vintage 30 or the H-75 Creamback and is built around a 12-inch driver with a medium-sized (35 oz) magnet. Celestion describes it as a "higher-power Greenback"—an absolutely fitting description. Expect that classic, "woody" tone and playing feel that add character to medium-gain sounds, complemented by a subtle, natural speaker saturation (breakup). It offers a robust power handling of 65 watts—40 watts more than the standard Greenback. Compared to the 75-watt Creamback, the 65-watt model is less efficient and therefore sounds slightly quieter at the same amp settings. Its tonal character is more nuanced, the bass response is a bit looser, and saturation sets in earlier.
We recommend it to anyone who appreciates classic low- or medium-gain tones at moderate volumes—or who prefers a certain "give" and a characterful speaker sound at higher volumes. In our opinion, it pairs perfectly with the unique dynamics and playing feel of the V40.
