The Dynaudio LYD 48 is the largest monitor in the LYD series, a 3-way active design for near or midfield listening in project and professional studios. An 8-inch MSP woofer, a 4-inch MSP midrange and a 1.1-inch soft-dome tweeter each run from their own Class-D amplifier, 80 W for the woofer and 50 W each for the midrange and tweeter, through a 24-bit/96 kHz DSP signal path. It plays to 112 dB maximum SPL as a pair, with response down to 50 Hz. This listing is the left speaker in Black Satin.

Left and Right Models

The LYD 48 lies horizontally, and Dynaudio builds it in dedicated left and right versions. The left speaker carries its woofer on the right side of the baffle, so when the pair is set up, both woofers sit on the inside, which is the placement the LYD manual recommends. Pair it with the LYD 48 right speaker in the same finish. The manual puts the ideal listening distance at 1.5 to 2.5 m.

Tuning to Your Room

Three DSP switches on the rear panel adapt the LYD 48 to the room. Bass Extension moves the low-frequency cutoff 10 Hz lower or higher, trading bass reach against maximum level. Sound Balance tilts the response by 1.5 dB at either end of the spectrum for a brighter or darker voicing, and Position applies a boundary filter for speakers placed within 50 cm of a wall.
