The Dynaudio Core 47 is a compact 3-way active reference monitor for music studios, TV dub stages, edit suites, broadcast trucks, ADR rooms and game audio suites, and it works as a surround speaker in multichannel and immersive rooms. A 7-inch MSP woofer, a 4-inch MSP midrange and a 28 mm Esotar Pro soft-dome tweeter with a Hexis inner dome run from three Pascal Class D amplifiers, 500 W, 500 W and 150 W. Crossover points at 475 Hz and 5,250 Hz put more of the vocal range in one driver, which helps with decisions on vocal balance and dialogue.

Left and Right Models

Dynaudio builds the Core 47 in two mirrored models, with the woofer on either side of the tweeter and midrange, and the manual calls for horizontal placement only. This listing is the left speaker, sold singly, with the woofer to the right of the tweeter and midrange as seen from the front. Add a Core 47 Right for a stereo pair. The pair can run tweeters-in or tweeters-out to suit the room and listening position.

A 44 mm front bezel stiffens the cabinet. Indentations on all four sides take Dynaudio's isolation pads, and the Core Mounting Bracket (Type 1) holds the Core 47 in surround and immersive layouts.

Tuning to the Room

Switches on the rear panel set the DSP for where the Core 47 sits. Position 1 chooses Anechoic, Desk or Soffit, Position 2 corrects the bass for a wall or corner within 50 cm, and the Sound Balance switch tilts the whole response by 1.5 dB at each end toward Bright or Dark while keeping the phase between the drivers intact. A Bass Extension switch adds an 80 Hz high-pass filter with time alignment for use with a Core Sub or Core Sub Compact.

A four-position switch matches the analog input to the maximum output of your interface or console, from 0 to +24 dBu. A second switch sets the level a -20 dBFS signal produces at 1 m (85, 91, 96 or 105 dB), so every Core speaker in a room can share one calibrated reference. On the AES3 input the Core 47 runs at the incoming sample rate with no sample-rate conversion and locks to the AES clock or to an external word clock.
