The Dynaudio Core 59 is the flagship of Dynaudio's Core range, a 3-way active reference monitor for nearfield, midfield or main monitoring and for soffit mounting. It suits music recording, mixing and mastering, theatrical re-mixing, and editorial and sound design work. A 9-inch long-excursion MSP woofer, a 5-inch MSP midrange and a 28 mm Esotar Pro soft-dome tweeter with a Hexis inner dome each have their own Pascal Class D amplifier, 500 W, 500 W and 150 W, and the speaker reaches 119 dB in half space.
Orbit Baffle
The tweeter and midrange sit together in the Orbit baffle, a sealed assembly that rotates inside the cabinet. Turn it 90 degrees and the Core 59 can lie on its side with the drivers still time-aligned, so one model covers left, right and center positions in 5.1, 7.1, 9.1.2 and Dolby Atmos systems. For a center channel the woofer can sit above or below the baffle. The cabinet has a 32 mm thick baffle, indentations on all four sides and VESA mounting points, and it also fits Dynaudio's Core Mounting Bracket (Type 1).
Tuning to the Room
Switches on the rear panel set the DSP for where the Core 59 sits. Position 1 chooses Anechoic, Desk or Soffit, Position 2 corrects the bass for a wall or corner within 50 cm, and the Sound Balance switch tilts the whole response by 1.5 dB at each end toward Bright or Dark while keeping the phase between the drivers intact. A Bass Extension switch adds an 80 Hz high-pass filter with time alignment for use with a Core Sub or Core Sub Compact.
A four-position switch matches the analog input to the maximum output of your interface or console, from 0 to +24 dBu. A second switch sets the level a -20 dBFS signal produces at 1 m (85, 91, 96 or 105 dB), so every Core speaker in a room can share one calibrated reference. On the AES3 input the Core 59 runs at the incoming sample rate with no sample-rate conversion and locks to the AES clock or to an external word clock.
Every Dynaudio driver is calibrated at the factory and marked with its value. If a driver ever needs replacing, you enter that value in the Core Update Tool over USB and the speaker is recalibrated.
