Eastman Strings is an American company with its own workshop in Beijing, China. Using well-seasoned, high-quality tonewoods, the company produces guitars, mandolins, violins, violas, cellos, and double basses. With one of the world’s largest stocks of maple for violin-family instruments, Eastman is highly regarded in Japan and throughout Europe.

This is the MD-614, a model newly introduced to Japan, featuring block position markers and a beautiful burst finish.

It combines block position markers reminiscent of 1930s F-5 mandolins with an F-4 body shape. Its clear brown sunburst finish stands out beautifully, giving the instrument the refined presence of a handcrafted work of art. It is a mandolin that offers real satisfaction simply from looking at it and owning it.

The oval-hole design produces a soft, warm response complemented by slightly sharp high frequencies, giving it a clear and well-defined sound. Its versatile voice makes it suitable for Irish music, folk, pop, jazz, and many other styles.

A K&K Duotone contact pickup is installed as standard equipment, delivering a natural amplified tone that retains the nuance of the acoustic sound. It is ready for use in live performance and recording.

The radius fingerboard offers excellent upper-register playability and handles fast phrases with ease. After arrival, the nut and saddle were adjusted and the strings were replaced with a lighter gauge to enhance left-hand playability.

This is also an excellent choice for guitarists considering taking up the mandolin.
