This is one of the finest 17-inch Gibson acoustic archtops that I've encountered.  It has a great mix of complexity of overtones, note separation, and massive headroom. Great parallel braced archtops have a pop to the initial attack that others don't have.  This one has it big time.  It's one of those archtops that can excel a large variety of styles/genres. It's one of those guitars that announces itself on the first note or chord you hear it speak.

The guitar was just refretted and has a new bone nut.  It plays beautifully and the bridge has ample room to adjust up or down as the player prefers.  The neck has a full C-shaped carve that is on the larger side, as is typical of the era. The bridge is a replacement ebony one that has been impeccably fitted to the top. The pickguard is also a reprodction (the original is included).  The tailpiece, tuners, and all of the finish are original.  The top has some finish discoloration from off-gassing of the celluloid strip of the original pickguard, as shown.  Otherwise the finish shows some checking and a few small dings, but is overall glossy and remarkably fine for a guitar of this age.

Weight - 5.25 pounds

Nut width - 1.75 inches

1st fret neck depth - 0.91 inches

9th fret neck depth - 1.00 inches

Scale length - 25.5 inches

Lower bout width - 17 inches

Body depth at rim - 3.5 inches

The guitar comes with likely non-original case which appears contemporary to the guitar.  It is in good condition with all latches and hinges completely functional.
