☆VINTAGE☆☆GOLDEN ERA☆☆COLLECTORS PIECE☆☆KING OF THE FLAT-TOPS☆Cushmic Sounds is thrilled to offer this exceptionally clean, and rare example of a genuine vintage, early 1952 Gibson SJ-200 Super Jumbo Acoustic, featuring its stunning Original Sunburst Nitro finish that has aged to Perfection! One of the most collectible and revered post-war vintage acoustic guitars in history, universally recognised as the "King of the Flat-Tops". This absolute work of art comes from Gibson's "Golden Era" period of guitar manufacturing and design, led by its visionary president, Ted McCarty from 1950 to 1966. Under his management, nearly all of the brand's most recognisable, "Holy Grail" instruments were born in this timeframe. Serial: A9901 (Internal White Label Sticker)• True Vintage Guitar in the United States confirms this serial number is early 1952.Making its debut in 1937 and available only as a custom-order until officially hitting the Gibson catalogue in 1938 due to intense popularity, the SJ-200 is still a holy grail guitar to many a singer-songwriter today. From the bygone era of Hollywood's singing cowboys with silver screen endorsements, the Super Jumbo quickly gained iconic status. But it wasn't just these cowboys who helped this instrument gain popularity. From the likes of the Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty, Orianthi - all who have been honoured with signature models have added to this iconic instrument's status, universally recognized as the "King of the Flat-Tops", a title it earned upon its debut in 1937 due to its massive Super Jumbo body, unparalleled volume, and high-end ornamentation.1952 was a special year for Gibson that saw the introduction of arguably the most iconic electric solid body guitar of all time, the Les Paul model, which continues to reign supreme. But let's not talk about electric guitars, we're here for this Glorious SJ-200!Weighing in at a mere 2.1kg (4.8lbs) with a lovely 2-piece Spruce top that features internal double X bracing (there is also a second X brace under the fingerboard area of the top), elegant plain Maple sides, stunning flame Maple back with aesthetic strip down the centre, multi-ply binding top and back, gorgeous flame Maple neck with Ebony strip and comfortable full "C" shape profile, bound Ebony fingerboard board with 12" radius, beautiful Mother of Pearl Crown inlays, 20 vintage replacement, period correct narrow frets and replacement Bone nut.Nut width: 42.18mm (1.660")Width at 10th fret: 51.56mm (2.030")Neck Depth at 1st fret: 23.69mm (0.932")Neck Depth at 12th fret: 26.64mm (1.049")Vintage replacement 2mm thick pickguard with lovely engraved detail which looks to from the mid-1950s, original "Moustache" Ebony (bolted) bridge with Mother of Pearl inlay, replacement Bone compensated saddle and original end pins. Original saddle is included with the sale. The headstock is adorned with a Mother of Pearl Gibson logo and Crown inlay, original Truss Rod cover is in place, original gold Kluson Deluxe single line, single ring tuners with Tulip buttons are in place and in reasonable working order, although the 'A' string tuner does slip as you will see in the video demo. I have included a set of German made Faber Deluxe tuners should you wish to swap over for extra tuning stability. Be sure to keep the original tuners if you do this!Overall condition is Excellent. There are no structural cracks or breaks, there are a minor dents and scrapes throughout, most notably at the base of the top and on the headstock face, just above the low E string post. The original hide glue neck joint is secure with minimal checking only on the back heel, the original "Moustache" bridge is secure with no separation, and the replacement pickguard is firmly in place. But let's take a moment to admire the glorious checking throughout the original nitro finish on this beautiful 74 year old guitar - Wowee! In summary, this is a very playable guitar though I personally feel the saddle could be taken down a touch, but I'll leave it to the next owner should they want to take on any modifications.Comes with its original Gibson Brown Hardshell Case with Pink Lining also in fantastic condition, handle intact, all latches in perfect working order.Serviced here at Cushmic Sounds with Elixir 11-52 Nanoweb 80/20 bronze strings, frets cleaned, fretboard cleaned, truss rod tested, adjusted, and works as it should.NOTE: As this is a vintage instrument with its original Nitro finish, I have not used any spray polishes. The cleaning process was done with extreme care using a super fine brush to get rid of dust, and then a final clean with a micro fibre polish cloth.SHIPPING: Fully insured shipping with tracking provided.
