Benson Amps Germanium Fuzz
The Benson Amps Germanium Fuzz takes the legendary warmth and dynamic responsiveness of classic 1960s two-transistor fuzz topologies and eliminates the performance issues that historically plagued them. Built around hand-matched NOS germanium transistors (2N527 or 2N404), this pedal delivers an expansive range of vintage-inspired tones. Rather than acting solely as a thick, spitty fuzz box, the circuit can dial in anything from a glass-smooth clean boost to harmonic overdrive and searing, octave-tinged fuzz when pushed hard.
To solve the temperature sensitivity issues inherent to germanium devices, Benson engineered a proprietary thermal bias circuit that actively regulates the transistors. An LED indicator glows amber while internal warming elements gently bring the transistors to their optimal operating temperature, switching to green once perfectly biased for consistent performance on hot outdoor stages or in cold studios. Additionally, Benson integrated a Class-A input buffer and a passive pickup simulator, allowing you to place the pedal anywhere in your signal chain—even after wireless units or wah pedals—without losing tone or dynamic response.
Constructed with premium components and housed in a rugged enclosure, the Germanium Fuzz features intuitive Volume, Gain, and Impedance controls. The specialized Impedance control simulates rolling back your guitar's volume knob right from the pedal, giving you instant access to sweet clean-up tones and high-end clarity.
