This past Saturday night, an impressive roster of musicians gathered at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for the annual Light Up The Blues Concert, which benefits the largest autism science and advocacy organization in the word, Autism Speaks.
Among those to grace the performance stage were the Heartbreakers—Mike Campbell, Steve Ferrone, and Benmont Tench—who played together for the first time since frontman Tom Petty's tragic passing back in October of last year.
In the months since Petty's death, the Heartbreakers' future has remained uncertain. Recently, though, Fleetwood Mac announced that Mike Campbell would be replacing the freshly fired Lindsey Buckingham.
The Heartbreakers were joined by a few of the concert's other headliners on Saturday as well. Stephen Stills and son Chris played the band's "I Won't Back Down" from Petty's 1989 release Full Moon Fever.
The Heartbreakers also backed Patti Smith on stage for her song "Because the Night" from Patti Smith Group's 1978 release Easter and joined (previously unannounced) headliner Beck for "Where It's At" from 1996's Odelay and "Guess I'm Doing Fine" from 2002's Sea Change.
Other notable performances of the night came from Neil Young, Sheryl Crow, Burt Bacharach, and Judy Collins.
