Beautiful silver plated York Grand Rapids fully restored with brand new pads.

I restore vintage saxophones as a hobby. I don’t do this for income, I enjoy the process and so once restored I am generally only looking to get the money back I have spent.

This York has an interesting set of tone holes. All the tone holes are made as a single sheet that is then attached to the tube, see the photos!

I bought this York from the USA and it was in a very poor state.

Initial faults:

  • Very dirty and tarnished
  • Barely played, all pads were shot.
  • The corks were very old

Remedies:

  • Stripped all keys
  • Full clean inside and out, and polish
  • Brand new pads with brown resonators.
  • Recorked the crook.
  • Stripped and applied fresh cork, regulated the stacks.

My costs:

  • Saxophone bought for £200
  • Full set of pads: £75
  • Cork: £7

I’ve probably spent 15 hours on it to date.

Starting price £275. Grab yourself a bargain!

General notes:

After the above she now looks and plays beautifully, please see the video if on eBay or request it if on Reverb.

Does not come with a case, I will work something out if she is to be couriered and package her carefully.

Stand, harness and mouthpiece is not included. Just the saxophone crook and case.

Play tests welcomed (and encouraged!).

Please see the photos and video.
