A genuinely special example of one of the most revered compressors ever made, and one with a story behind it.

This silver face UREI LA-4 (Serial #12074) spent time at Moles Studio in Bath, one of the UK's most respected independent recording studios, before making its way here. That kind of real working studio provenance speaks for itself. This is a unit that has been used properly, on real sessions, and kept in good shape throughout.

It has been professionally serviced and modified by WD41 here in the UK, one of the most trusted names in vintage audio restoration. The modification upgrades the connections to standard 1/4" jacks, making it immediately practical for modern studio and live use without any compromise to the original signal path or character.

The LA-4 needs little introduction. A classic FET-based compressor/limiter that has been a studio standard for decades, prized for its smooth, transparent gain reduction across vocals, bass, drums, and mix bus work. The silver face version is the one to have, increasingly hard to find in clean, working condition, let alone with this level of care and history behind it. All original parts and well calibrated.

Cosmetics are very good throughout. All controls work exactly as they should. It sounds the way a well-kept LA-4 should sound, effortless, musical and utterly reliable. Comes with rack ears and IEC power cable.
