1968 Fender Twin Reverb AB763 Silverface Drip Edge – Ex Now Hire Birmingham Touring Backline – DWJ Serviced

A very special, genuinely road-worn 1968 Fender Twin Reverb with a wonderful history.

This is an early Silverface “drip edge” Twin Reverb, serial A12740, carrying the desirable AB763 tube chart — the famous blackface-era Twin Reverb design associated with the classic Fender clean tone.

Not a reissue. Not a relic. This one earned every mark.

This amplifier came directly from the owner of Now Hire, Birmingham, where it formed part of their professional hire/backline inventory from the 1970s onwards. Now Hire supplied equipment into the touring and professional music world for many years, and this Twin shows exactly the sort of working history you would expect from an amp that spent its life being used rather than stored.

It was acquired together with several other vintage Fender combos and a Wurlitzer electric piano with documented connection to 10cc (through accompanying repair/shipping paperwork addressed to their road manager in Los Angeles). While many artist names were associated with the equipment verbally over the years, I am not selling this as a “celebrity-owned” amplifier — simply as a genuine vintage professional hire amp with a fantastic history.

Details:

  • Fender Twin Reverb-Amp
  • Circa 1968
  • Silverface drip-edge model
  • AB763 tube chart
  • Export model
  • Original Fender Special Design blue-label speakers
  • Classic 2×12 configuration
  • Spring reverb & vibrato
  • Original cabinet, grille, faceplate and road patina
  • Recently serviced by respected valve amp specialist Dan Whitelock-Jones

The cosmetic condition tells its own story:

  • worn tolex
  • aged grille cloth
  • oxidised faceplate
  • old hire stickers
  • handwritten touring reminders still attached

I have deliberately left these untouched. They are part of the amplifier’s history.

This is exactly the sort of Twin you would expect to see in a working studio: not a museum piece, but a genuine late-60s Fender that has spent decades doing the job it was built for.

Huge, clean, unmistakable Twin Reverb tone.

Ideal for:

  • recording studios
  • collectors of genuine road-used gear
  • players wanting the real thing rather than a showroom example

A rare opportunity to own a piece of British touring/backline history.
