The most sought-after vintage D28s are examples from 1937 with forward-shifted, hand-scalloped X-bracing, an Adirondack spruce top, and a 1.75-inch nut width. The Martin Authentic range honors these iconic vintage instruments by recreating them.
To get as close as possible to the sound of Brazilian rosewood, Martin has chosen Guatemalan rosewood that closely resembles the coveted Brazilian rosewood.

Additionally, Martin’s VTS Vintage Tone system has been applied to both the Adirondack spruce top and the bracing. The Martin Vintage Tone System (VTS) uses a unique recipe based on the historic torrefaction system. This VTS system acts very much like a time machine that allows Martin to accelerate the "aging" of the tonewood. Thanks to VTS, Martin can reproduce not only the pleasing visual aesthetic of a vintage guitar, but also the special vintage sound that is normally reserved only for "real" vintage instruments.

This 2022 Martin still looks beautiful, and with its Low Gloss finish, it is a guitar that already looks a bit broken in. There is a small ding on the top behind the bridge. There is also a ding on the side of the body in the waist on the treble side, but otherwise, the guitar is remarkably clean!
