Personal Thoughts:
The early pre-historic Les Paul reissues have a real appeal of their own now, because they represent Gibson’s first serious push back toward the late-’50s burst formula before the Historic line fully evolved into what most people know today. They sit in an interesting spot in the market as well, as they have the look and feel of an early reissue but with their own quirks and character that make them distinct from later R9s. That is a big part of why they are so appealing. A clean 1989 example in DarkBurst is especially attractive, as the finish really suits the model and gives it that proper old-school burst look without being overdone. These guitars also tend to have a very honest charm about them, and when they have survived this well they feel all the more desirable. A very cool early Custom Shop Les Paul and a great piece from the pre-historic era.

Condition Report:
Excellent condition. There is a minor nick to the rear top of the headstock, but otherwise this is a very clean example for the year and presents beautifully overall.
