I’m selling my lovely Rhodes, I think it was made in 1974 in the transition period from Fender. I bought it from Paul Butler of The Bees about 15 years ago - you can hear it recorded here -

It’s in pretty great condition, some cosmetic wear as you’d expect of anyone this age, but nothing mental, some notes are slightly louder than others which I’m sure could be amended with a set up but I left it as I liked the vibe.

I lost the pedal rod at some point so this isn’t original and I think some tines may have been replaced over the years but everything else is original.

I’m based in South London, could deliver within an hour radius.

Also very welcome to come try it out.

I do have a lid, just trying to locate it!

Please get in touch with any questions.

Thanks heaps, Douglas

((Below is what ai said about the model numbers))

Tonebar rail (Image 1): 0974

9th week of 1974 — early March 1974.

Pickup rail (Image 2): 0677

6th week of 1977 — early February 1977.

The pickup rail is the more reliable indicator, but a 3-year gap between the two is unusually large. The most likely explanation is that the pickup rail was replaced at some point — a very common service item on these. The tonebar rail stamp is harder to swap out and probably reflects the original build date.

Verdict: almost certainly a 1974 build, with a later replacement pickup rail. The serial K604253 and the “Rhodes Keyboard Instruments” (not “Fender Rhodes”) label also fit — that branding transition happened around 1975, but label stocks overlapped, so a ‘74 instrument with a post-Fender label isn’t unusual on a piano that was serviced or had parts replaced.

It’s a 73-key late Fender Rhodes / early Rhodes Mk I — right at the transition point
