This uber rare Jennings J100 amplifier head, serial number 1204, dates to approximately 1969–1970.

After leaving Vox in 1967, Jennings returned to the original Dartford works and began producing a new line of amplifiers with the input of the original vox amp design team of Dick Denney and John Oram that effectively continued his design philosophy outside of the Vox name.

The very early J100 series production example sits right at the centre of this brief but historically important chapter in British amplifier manufacturing, making surviving examples, particularly low serial number units like this, highly desirable to collectors investors and discerning players.

This amplifier was produced during the Dartford era, placing it firmly within the earliest phase of Jennings’ post-Vox output. As such, it represents not only a very rare head model but a genuine continuation of the lineage that defined the sound of British amplification through the 1960s. While Vox amplification became synonymous with artists such as The Beatles and The Shadows, this Jennings period reflects Tom Jennings’ direct involvement immediately after that ground breaking era, with his continued association with key British acts, including:

• The Shadows

• Argent

• The Dave Clark Five

• Sounds Incorporated

The J100 is a 100-watt solid-state head offering powerful clean headroom, a tight and articulate low end, and clear, glassy top-end response. It works exceptionally well as a pedal platform and is equally suited to studio or live use. A key feature for collectors and working players alike is its selectable 110V / 240V operation, allowing it to be used worldwide without the need for an external transformer, an increasingly important and desirable feature for international buyers.

For reliability and safe operation, the power filter capacitors have been professionally replaced, with the original capacitors retained, ensuring the amp is fully functional and ready for use while maintaining its vintage integrity. Cosmetically, it presents very well and importantly includes its original Jennings head cover, which is in excellent, near mint condition. These covers are often missing, and its presence here significantly enhances both the collectability and completeness of the amplifier.

With its early serial number, Dartford production, worldwide voltage capability, original cover, and recent servicing, this J100D stands as both a highly usable vintage amplifier and a serious collector-grade piece. Jennings post-Vox amplifiers are becoming increasingly recognised as an important and undervalued part of British musical equipment history, and examples of this quality and originality are seldom available.

A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine late-1960s Jennings amplifier, one of the earliest surviving examples that combines historical provenance, practical usability, strong long-term collector appeal, and true investment value.
