About This Model

The Pioneer CT-W505R is a double auto-reverse cassette deck from 1998, built around dual independent transport mechanisms — Deck 1 for playback and Deck 2 for both record and playback. It supports Type I, CrO2, and Metal tape, with a frequency response reaching 20 Hz–16.5 kHz on Metal and a wow and flutter figure of just 0.09%. Noise reduction covers Dolby B and C (76 dB S/N with Dolby C), and HX Pro headroom extension is included. Among its more distinctive features are ALCA (Automatic Level Control with Tape Analysis), which records and compares a test signal to set optimal recording levels; Auto BLE, which automatically configures bias and equalisation per tape type; and FLEX, which compensates high-frequency playback response by up to 12 dB around 10 kHz. Additional capabilities include high-speed and normal-speed dubbing, CD sync recording, relay playback, blank skip, and twin 4-digit electronic tape counters with real-time and tape-length modes.
