Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano Spring / Hall / Flerb Reverb
The Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano is a compact digital reverb pedal built around a wonderfully simple idea: three distinctive reverb sounds, one wet/dry control and no unnecessary programming.
Choose between Spring, Hall and Flerb, then use the Reverb control to determine how much ambience you want. That simplicity makes the Holy Grail Nano equally comfortable providing subtle always-on ambience, classic amp-style spring reverb or much more atmospheric and experimental textures.
EHX combines its three reverb algorithms with true bypass, mono operation and a compact Nano enclosure, making this an easy reverb to integrate into virtually any conventional guitar pedalboard.
Why Choose the Holy Grail Nano? Spring – Classic Amp-Style ReverbThe Spring algorithm recreates the character of the mechanical spring reverb tanks traditionally found in guitar amplifiers.
It's particularly well suited to:
- Surf
- Blues
- Country
- Rockabilly
- Classic rock
- Clean rhythm guitar
- Vintage-inspired tones
Keep the Reverb control relatively low for a touch of natural space, or turn it higher when you want that spring character to become a more obvious part of the sound.
Hall – Spacious, Lush ReverbHall gives you a smoother and larger sense of acoustic space.
It's an excellent general-purpose setting for:
- Lead guitar
- Clean chords
- Arpeggios
- Ambient guitar
- Indie
- Alternative
- Keyboards and synths
If you're looking for one setting that can cover a wide range of everyday playing, Hall is an excellent place to start.
Flerb – The Holy Grail's Wild SideFlerb is what distinguishes this Holy Grail from many conventional compact reverbs.
It combines flanging with spatial reverb, producing a moving, modulated ambience rather than simply simulating another physical room.
It's particularly interesting for:
- Psychedelic guitar
- Shoegaze
- Experimental music
- Ambient textures
- Modulated clean sounds
- Synthesizers
- Sound design
If Spring and Hall cover the traditional side of the Holy Grail, Flerb gives you something considerably stranger.
One Knob – That's the PointThe main Reverb knob acts as the wet/dry control.
There are no decay menus, modulation submenus, presets or secondary footswitch combinations.
Choose Spring, Hall or Flerb → set the Reverb amount → play.
For players who don't need a programmable reverb workstation, that's a major part of the Holy Grail Nano's appeal.
Holy Grail Nano vs Holy Grail NeoThese two EHX pedals look similar, but there is an important difference.
Holy Grail Nano Holy Grail Neo Spring Spring Hall Hall Flerb Plate True Bypass True Bypass Mono Mono 105mA 75mAThe Holy Grail Nano is the better choice if you want the unusual modulated Flerb sound.
The Holy Grail Neo replaces Flerb with Plate, making it better suited to players who would prefer three more conventional reverb types.
Where Should the Holy Grail Go on a Pedalboard? For a conventional setup, start with the Holy Grail towards the end of your signal chain:
Guitar → Overdrive/Fuzz → Modulation → Delay → Holy Grail → Amp
This keeps your reverb relatively clean and allows it to create space around your other effects.
For shoegaze and experimental sounds, however, don't be afraid to move it earlier. Putting reverb before distortion or fuzz can create much more compressed and chaotic textures.
Ideal for Amps Without ReverbThe Holy Grail Nano is particularly useful if you already love your amplifier but it doesn't have built-in reverb.
Spring mode gives you an easy way to introduce familiar amp-style ambience without replacing your amplifier or adding a larger multi-effects unit.
Hall and Flerb then provide additional sounds that a traditional mechanical spring tank couldn't produce.
Who Is It For?The Holy Grail Nano is a strong choice for:
- Blues
- Rock
- Country
- Surf
- Indie
- Alternative
- Psychedelic
- Shoegaze
- Ambient
- Experimental music
- Compact pedalboards
- Amps without built-in reverb
- Players who prefer simple controls
Although designed around electric guitar, EHX confirms the algorithms also work with other instruments and voices, making the Holy Grail useful for keyboards, synths and studio experimentation too.
Power RequirementsThe Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano requires its specified 9.6VDC-200mA power adapter, which is supplied with the pedal.
EHX lists the Holy Grail Nano at 105mA current draw and explicitly warns in its manual to use the supplied adapter rather than substituting another DC adapter.

Fair Deal Music VerdictThe Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano remains a great option for players who want good reverb without turning their pedalboard into a programming exercise.
Best suited for: Guitarists wanting straightforward Spring and Hall reverb with an additional experimental option.
Main benefit: Three distinctive reverb sounds with an exceptionally simple control layout.
Standout feature: Flerb. Combining flanging and spatial reverb gives the Holy Grail Nano a distinctive third voice beyond its more traditional Spring and Hall sounds.
Customers usually upgrade from: Built-in amplifier reverb or basic single-mode reverb pedals.
Most commonly paired with: Delay, tremolo, chorus, overdrive and fuzz.
Our tip: Don't overlook subtle settings. Start with Spring or Hall and keep the Reverb control relatively low. Adding just enough ambience to give the guitar some space can be more useful for everyday playing than an obviously wet reverb.
Showroom feedback: The appeal is its immediacy. If you don't need presets, MIDI or detailed parameter editing, the Holy Grail gives you three useful sounds without distracting you from actually playing.
