Built to Martin’s 2016 X Series specification, this Grand Performance cutaway model pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with high-pressure laminate back and sides in a striking cocobolo pattern. It offers the durability and consistency the X Series is known for, while still delivering a responsive and musical top thanks to the solid spruce construction. The body is finished in a hand-rubbed satin, giving it a smooth, understated feel.

The neck features Martin’s Performing Artist profile with a high-performance taper, making it an easy player whether you’re working through chord changes or more intricate lead and fingerstyle parts. The fingerboard and bridge are Richlite, offering a stable, low-maintenance alternative to traditional tonewoods without sacrificing feel. Standard 25.4" scale length and 1 3/4" nut width provide a familiar and versatile platform.

Inside, it follows Martin’s scalloped X-bracing pattern, helping the top move freely and enhancing projection and clarity across the frequency range. The Grand Performance body shape sits nicely between a dreadnought and an OM, giving a balanced response with a bit of extra comfort thanks to the cutaway design.

Electronics are handled by the Fishman Sonitone system, with discreet soundhole-mounted controls for volume and tone. It’s a straightforward, dependable setup that translates the guitar’s natural acoustic character well in live or recording situations, without overcomplicating things.

Tonally, this is a well-balanced and versatile instrument. The low end is controlled and focused rather than overpowering, the midrange is clear and punchy—great for cutting through a mix—and the top end has a crisp, clean edge without harshness. There’s a slightly tighter, more direct response compared to all-solid models, which works well for stage use and recording, while still retaining enough warmth and body for enjoyable unplugged playing.
