McKintosh XR 5 with MQ104 Equalizer, 1976-1980

I’m very reluctant to see these go! But go, they must, ahead of wholesale renovations at home (hence the bare floors in the photos); it means moving on all but the most essential/treasured HiFi equipment.

These McIntosh X-RAY 5 speakers are in full working order, having been serviced by the previous owner (a retired electronics and electrical engineering lecturer at Liverpool University). They come with the McIntosh MQ104 custom environmental equaliser, which I believe was an optional extra, and so is even harder to find in the UK than the speakers. This was only available in 120v, and so comes with a third party 240 to 120v power converter.

Cosmetically they are fantastic, reflecting the superb quality of construction. The only significant blemish can be seen on the rear corner of one speaker, and is clearly shown in the photographs; it goes unseen when the speakers are in position, however it is a simple repair, using careful application of heat and a little moisture. It’s a repair I’ve done successfully to cheaper speakers, but I’d be inclined to leave this one to someone more experienced.

They come with instruction manuals and spare parts (fuses and capacitors).
