Ampeg V-4 — Early 1970s All-Tube Head, 100W, Serviced

Vintage Ampeg V-4 guitar head from the early 1970s — the original Magnavox-era circuit, not a later reissue. 100 watts of all-tube power and the smoky, midrange-heavy break-up that made the V-4 a studio favourite in the early 70s. The smaller, more manageable sibling to the SVT, and arguably better suited to guitar.

Controls: Two inputs (One / Two) with individual sensitivity switches (−9dB / −6dB / 0dB), Volume 1, Volume 2, Treble, Midrange, Bass, Reverb, three-position Ultra Hi rocker, three-position Midrange frequency selector (300Hz / 1000Hz / 3000Hz), standby, polarity, power.

Tone: Thick, throaty, classic 70s rock voicing. Cleans up well at lower volume settings and bites hard when pushed. The Ultra Hi switch and midrange voicing rockers give a genuinely wide tonal range — not a one-trick amp.

Condition: Honest fair / player's condition. Tolex wear and scuffs on the top and corners, some adhesive residue near the handle from an old sticker, faceplate scratches, but all corner protectors, knobs, switches, and badge present and original. Built like a tank and clearly has been gigged — exactly what you'd expect from a 50-year-old working amp. Please study the photos carefully as they form part of the description.

Electronically: Fully tested and working correctly. Recently serviced this year with the bias checked, power tubes tested, valve sockets and pots cleaned. All controls, switches, and reverb functional through their full range.
