The Details
The Marshall SC20H Studio Classic brings the unmistakable character of the legendary JCM800 2203 into a compact, British-made 20-watt amplifier head. Part of Marshall's acclaimed Studio series, it recreates the muscular midrange, cutting attack and expressive overdrive that helped define countless classic rock and hard rock recordings, while offering a more practical alternative to the original 100-watt design.
Powered by a pair of EL34 valves, the SC20H delivers everything from warm, articulate clean tones to aggressive, harmonically rich distortion. Its straightforward single-channel layout features separate preamp and master volume controls, allowing players to shape the amount of drive independently of the overall output level. High and low sensitivity inputs provide additional flexibility, while the familiar bass, middle, treble and presence controls offer precise tonal adjustment. The switchable 5W mode makes the amplifier particularly useful for recording, rehearsal and situations where full output power isn't required.
Modern conveniences include a switchable series effects loop for integrating delay, modulation and other pedals, alongside a DI output and a selection of speaker connections. Despite its smaller dimensions, the SC20H retains the commanding sound and responsive playing feel associated with classic Marshall valve amplification.
This example features the traditional black textured covering, gold control panel and white Marshall script logo. It shows visible cosmetic wear, including scuffs and marks to the covering, particularly around the corners and edges, consistent with regular use. The amplifier retains its distinctive vintage-inspired appearance and would make an excellent choice for players seeking authentic JCM800 character without the considerable size and output of the original.
