A classic 8-track 1/2" tape recorder in decent condition but could use some tlc
Primary functions are all good as of testing this week - you can record and play back on all 8 channels using the record and sync modes - which according the manual is the intended way for the machine to be used.
The repro circuit is currently in need of some repair and is currently only coming through on channels 3, 5 & 6. The manual states that the repro head is intended for ease of calibration primarily, which is somewhat unusual of tape machines generally.
Cause of issue with repro is not known, and if you are a electronics wiz you may find a straightforward issue to fix. As far as I can tell the tape head itself is in fine condition.
If serviced back to full functionality this will make an excellent little recorder - I have personally enjoyed the sound, which does have a unique vibe compared with anything I've done in the box or via a mixing desk, adding a sort of bedding/cohesion to the sounds? Hard to describe exactly, tend to find I don't need to do much to it, although it is not as bright as digital and I'll usually compensate with eq.
It is extremely heavy so collection from Bristol is much preferred, and you can obviously see it functioning in person that way.
