About This Model
The Weber Mini MASS is a passive power attenuator designed to sit between a valve amplifier's output and the speaker cabinet, absorbing wattage so the amp can be driven hard at reduced listening levels. Rather than using a purely resistive load, the MiniMASS employs an actual speaker motor to create a more realistic interaction between the attenuator and the amplifier's output circuit, with attenuation continuously adjustable from roughly -6dB to over -50dB. Turning the speaker control to minimum allows the unit to be used as a dummy load for testing or DI use. A front-panel impedance switch covers 4, 8 and 16 ohms, and the unit also provides treble compensation, MASS bypass and a line out. The treble boost counters the high-frequency loss that becomes noticeable at heavier attenuation settings, and no external power supply is required. The 50-watt version is intended for amplifiers up to 50 watts, and pairing it with a higher-wattage head risks damage to the attenuator or the amp.
